Describe one of your favorite moments.

One of my favorite moments was running my second 10k, which is 6.1 miles.

My husband ran part of the race with me. That was OK, although I’m like my daughter. The more you try to encourage me, the more stressed and angry I get.

I finished under an hour, which was my goal. That was very cool. And I finished while holding my husband’s hand. That was also cool.

The best part was having my parents and no-longer little brother there. My youngest son was a toddler at the time.

My second favorite part was seeing my oldest two kids interact with their relatives and fit in like two little peas in a very cool, family pod.

Sometime during the race, Mountain Kid 3 feel asleep in my dad’s arms. The photo of them together is one of my all-time favorites.

When I finished the race, it was like having my parents at the track meets and basketball games I used to participate in while I was at school. Seeing them cheer for me at age 30-something was pretty nostalgic and just made me realize how much my parents mean to me.

Except my brother — his participation in the entire event was like getting two cherries in a sundae — absolutely amazing. He was born the summer before my senior year of high school. He never watched me do my thing, which was sports. My siblings were more into music and technology.

Unfortunately, my dad passed away long enough ago that my kids don’t remember much about him.

On this day — the day of my oldest son’s birth and the day before Father’s Day — knowing how little they knew of him hits me hard.

They have spent a lot of time with my mother. Together, she and I have shared lots of different stories about my dad. Hopefully, they’ll resonate with my kids as they become adults.
