What’s the most delicious thing you’ve ever eaten?

The most delicious food I’ve ever had has been cooked by my father’s mother — my grandma.

She was a stay-at-home mom who sewed clothes and catered on the side. She made her children’s wedding cakes.

My favorite meals are ones either she made or where inspired by her. Baked ziti, stuffed zucchini or peppers, and Christmas cookies were all my favorites.

I regret that my kids didn’t get to taste her cooking, or my dad’s. They were able to turn almost anything group of ingredients into something special.

They inspired me to go to culinary school. I did well, but for some reason stuck with my day job.

While my kids don’t appreciate mousse made with avocado, they have learned about lox (smoked salmon), capers and how mixing different flavors (salty and sweet, hot and sweet), can make something awesome.

That’s because my grandma and her oldest son taught me through their food. And I (some days I’m really trying) to teach my children.
