Hello everyone.
Like Taylor Swift, I thought the problem was me, as to why I haven’t been posting on this blog as much as I should.
A lot is going on, things I’m still wrapping my head around.
When I started the blog, Mountain Mama Adventures, 12-plus years ago, I wanted it to be a way to help people like myself — parents of young kids reclaim their sanity and fitness while living in less than ideal economic situations.
Then I started gardening and doing some travel to places nearby. And my blog because too much, too scattered.
Then I stopped writing. A month or so would go by and I’d write again or post photos. Then it got overwhelming or I hit a lazy phase where I didn’t want to do anything. For me, this is my own circle of life. I have phases of hyper-productivity, I crash and burn and try to reignite something by overcommitting.
I felt bad about not writing or posting, but I felt worse about my situation at the time. I also felt like a bit of an imposter. While I dream of butterflies and double rainbows over manicured gardens, I live knee deep in dark chaos of unlabeled scattered rows of who knows what, with a fertilizer of self-loathing and exhaustion from overextending myself as an employee, mother and whatever the world demanded of me at the moment.
Some days I’m still a very hot mess that’s tall, usually quiet, invisible and very curious about everything. I still want to be a Renaissance woman when I grow up. I also realize, at almost level 50 (we don’t talk about age on this blog), that some of the skills I do have are pretty awesome and just need polish.
The goal this go around is to start smaller both in focus and in scope of work. I plan to post every Tuesday and Thursday with a bonus weekend post for subscriber.
We’ll talk about navigating being a parent — my three kids have leveled up quite a bit since we started this adventure together!! We’ll also look at family dynamics, food, and women’s mental and physical health.
The adventures will frame things with the mindset of being family friendly and looking at things through the my lens. I’m not going to tell you how to do things. I’m hear to say what worked or didn’t work for me and that I support you at this phase of whatever life journey you’re on.
I’m also putting the blog on Substack, where I hope to reach people where they are. Both sites will have content specifically for subscribers.
As usual, you can find me on Facebook and Instagram as well.
Hope to see you on your next adventure!
