What are your biggest challenges?

We all have dreams, goals, and aspirations. For me, more often than not, the biggest obstacle standing in the way of success is myself. “It’s me. Hi, I’m the problem, it’s me.”

It’s common to self-sabotage, doubt, or fear the pursuit of ambitions. Sometimes, I see myself unravel, but seeing a kid about to trip but not being close enough to stop them.

Below is among the things that have helped me be more successful at restarting and conquering my challenges.

  • Recognizing Self-Sabotage: Overcoming self-imposed barriers is to recognize them. Self-sabotage can manifest in ways such as procrastination, negative self-talk, perfectionism, and fear of failure. In the past, I recognized the barriers but didn’t do anything about it. Now, I try to write something down in my journal or a text to myself, so I can move on. When I journal, I tend to dig deeper into the root causes of the self-sabotage.
  • Understanding the Causes: Digging deeper into the causes of self-sabotage can provide valuable insights. It could be rooted in past experiences, limiting beliefs, or a fear of the unknown. Understanding these underlying factors empowers you to address them and challenge the negative narratives. Most of my negative narratives revolve around overthinking something. So I try to just take a deep breath and relax.
  • Cultivating Self-Compassion: Breaking free from self-sabotage requires a self-compassion. Practice kindness and understanding. Treat yourself with the same empathy and encouragement that you would offer a friend.
  • Setting Realistic Goals: Break down ambitions into smaller, achievable steps. Celebrate small victories along the way, and use them as motivation to keep moving forward. These goals, not only build momentum, but also boost confidence and belief in your abilities.
  • Embracing Failure as a Learning Opportunity: Failure is a valuable learning opportunity. Setbacks provide insights into areas that may need improvement and refinement. Failure is a necessary part of the journey, so transform it into a catalyst for growth.
  • Surrounding Yourself with Positivity: Cultivate a positive and supportive network that encourages your aspirations. Share your goals with those who inspire you. Distance yourself from negativity, as it can contribute to self-doubt.
